Throwing a good old-fashioned Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland theme was a perfect excuse to design these beautiful vintage-inspired party supplies. It was so much fun to string these cute decorations on a velvet ribbon.
What is more classic “Alice” than a deck of cards? Let’s talk about how to put together this beautiful themed playing card garland, the beloved characters they feature, and other fun ways to use them in your celebrations!
How to Use These Free Printable Alice in Wonderland Playing Card Garland
In a matter of minutes, you can have beautiful and elegant decorations perfect for any event small or large, or even decorating for a fun holiday like Valentine’s Day or Halloween.
How to Create an Alice in Wonderland-themed Playing Cards Garland
- Step One. Print the free download. 80 lb Cardstock is the best option for ease of stringing them.
- Step Two. Cut out the cards with a sharp pair of scissors.
- Step Three. Evenly space out two holes to the top of one card. Use that first card as a template for all the rest. Be careful to ensure each card is faced upwards before punching the holes.
- Step Four. I chose to alternate black and red and keep the King, Queen, Jack, and Ace random.
- Step Five. String one card at a time starting from the back of the card, through the front, and out the back on the other side.
- Step Six. Add your flourishes as desired. I chose to add tassels, mini glass “drink me” bottles, and brass skeleton keys.
Other fun uses for these Vintage-Inspired Playing Cards
Though the intent was to use this deck of cards as a garland they certainly aren’t limited to that fun decoration. Here are a few other fun ways to use them:
- Hang them on clear string separately as a fun display around your party areas. I can even imagine them hanging from the ceiling above a table with fun-themed treats.
- Print them on sticker paper and use them as fun window decorations.
- Use them as fun party invites, print them on cardstock, and then write the invitation on the back. A themed invitational poem would surely be festive!
“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” illustrations by Arthur Rackham
These beautiful illustrations are done by my favorite illustrator Arthur Rackham. His unique style of pen and watercolor illustrations have a beautiful feel to them. I personally love his drawings of Alice herself as well as his versions of the animals, like the gryphon and mock turtle.

“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” original illustrations by sir john Tenniel
I decided to make and use the original illustrations by Sir John Tenniel, as to me they’re just the classic version. However, if you’re looking for a spookier vibe I think the Arthur Rackham illustrations fit that no doubt.
